TRUST…a real bad word!

Posted by Jody | Posted in God Stuff | Posted on 16-11-2009

OK so many for us TRUST is a 4-letter word – even though it’s really five. :)   I mean, we all think back to a time when we had trusted someone only to be let down or hurt.  There is no way around it, when you decide to put your trust in someone or something you have to take a chance of it coming back and smacking you in the face.

But here is the undeniable truth about trust.  YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IT!

Here’s what I mean:

  • You had to trust someone when you jumped in the pool for the first time.
  • You had to trust someone to teach you how to drive.  And for many of us the teachers weren’t that great anyway ☺
  • We had to trust someone to hold our bikes straight when we took off the training wheels.
  • At some point we had to decide that our teachers were smarter than us and let them teach us what we needed to know in school.
  • How about your closing agent on your first home?  Now that took a lot of trust because let’s face it – that paperwork really is Greek to many of us.
  • We had to trust that our spouse would not leave or forsake us when we said, “I do.”
  • How about trusting the doctor to deliver your child while he’s keeping your wife alive with her stomach open? (I know, not a pretty picture but that was my own experience).
  • Lastly, if you follow Christ, you had to trust that He is the way.  He (not you) makes the decisions for you now, because He knows best.

In the end, all of the prior life experiences often lead to that last one.  They occur to teach you and me something about life.  Yes, people let you down and the things of this world cannot be trusted.  But they teach you to let go of control sometimes.  These learning experiences set you up for the biggest decision of your life, which is deciding to let go and let God take it from there.

As Michael said this past weekend, we have to stop waiting to see how God lines up with our wants and desires.  We have to put our trust in Him and make a life commitment of being okay with His leadings.  And we have to decide that we want to be a part of His plans, no matter what they are.

By the way if you are an Oak Leafer I will be talking about this in the service in a couple of weeks, stay tuned!
